Get something with lamb, the Icelandic lamb mixed with Indian spices is just a divine combination
Shalimar is a Pakistani/Indian restaurant located in Austurstraeti, downtown Reykjavik, and it's the northenmost Indian restaurant in the world. Shalimar has been around for over ten years, and plays an integral role in the oriental food industry in Iceland. The place itself is intimate, charming and beautifully decorated. Shalimar is named after the famous Shalimar Gardens in Lahore, that was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife, as a token of his love in 1641.
The chefs at Shalimar use only fresh ingredients and homemade spices. The menu features fine authentic Pakistani and Indian dishes, spicy and original enough to make your mouth water. Whether you're there for lunch or dinner, you will get an oriental food experience like no other, completely free of sugar, MSG and flour. The dishes are reasonably priced as well. Make sure to try the Tandoori chicken served with rice, salad, raita and chutney, or the very hot, bright red Murgh Vindaloo. Their garlic naan is out-of-this-world delicious, and all dishes are properly spiced, unlike most oriental restaurants in Reykjavik. Of course you can always ask for a mild version of your dish of choice if you don't think you can take the heat, or even a hotter one if you're feeling courageous.
The service at Shalimar is very friendly, and the staff is eager to please. The vibe of the place is warm and welcoming, the music is exotic, and most importantly the food is delicious and stays true to it's origin.
