You have to order at the counter, as there is no table service, but the food will be served to you.
For such a small country, Iceland sure has a lot of exciting oriental restaurants to choose from, one of which is the fantastic Krua Thai. Krua Thai is fast, affordable and so delicious that we can hardly begin to describe it. One is located in Kopavogur and the other one in central Reykjavik, close to the harbour. The places are decorated in modest thai fashion and sort of have a fast food feel to it, at least the food is very, very fast. We're talking 5-10 minutes or so, even when they're extremely busy. The ambiance is cozy and informal, but as soon as you take the first bite of your meal, you will feel like you're at a first class restaurant. Whatever you may order from the extensive 41 dish menu, wether you choose the take away option or dine there, you will not be disappointed. The proportions are generous, the prices are low and the taste is true to it's origin.
There is so much to recommend from the menu, we'll start with Pad Thai, a noodle dish stir-fried with eggs, fish sauce, tamarind juice and red chilli pepper, garnished with bean sprouts, crushed peanuts, coriander and lime. You can choose from chicken, shrimp or tofu. All curry dishes are excellent, everything with oyster sauce is divine but the absolute best, only for the brave, is Nam Tok, a meat dish usually made with beef, ground roasted rice, ground dried chillies, fish sauce, lime juice, shallots, and spring onion, served with sticky rice and raw vegetables. If your tastebuds can take the heat, it will probably be one of the best meals you'll have in your life.
If you want to have a casual meal in a friendly environment but still be completely blown away by the quality of the food, Krua Thai is the place for you.
