Glaciers
Drangajökull is the northernmost glacier of Iceland. Located just below the Hornstrandir peninsula, it sits in the northern quarter of the Westfjords. It is the only glacier in this region and the only Icelandic glacier that sits entirely below an altitude of 1000 metres.
The glacier itself is the fifth largest in the country, covering an area 160-200 km2. Unlike most other Icelandic glaciers, Drangajökull is unique in that it has not shrunk in size in recent years. It is popular with hikers and has a small variety of hotels in the region for those wishing to stay nearby.
