Practical places and numbers

The international dialling code for iceland is 354. When you are in Iceland, if you're dialling from an Icelandic number, you don't need to use the international dialling code.

There are tourist information centers anywhere you go in Iceland. One of the main ones in downtown Reykjavík is located on Aðalstræti 2

If you need the post office, you can find a directory of all their offices here. You can also call them at (+354) 580 1000.

For a pharmacy, you can ask the staff where you're staying. In Reykjavík there is are farmacies that stay open late at Lágmúli and Smáratorg. Unfortunately this comprehensive directory of farmacies only exists in Icelandic but you should be able to find what you need.

If you need a taxi, you can call Hreyfill at (+354) 5 88 55 22 or BSR at (+354) 561 0000.

Emergencies:

The number for emergencies is (+354) 112. This works for police, ambulance and the fire department. Take a minute to put it on your speed dial. This is also the number if you're lost in the countryside, or suffer a mechanical breakdown in the middle of nowhere.

If you have an acute medical need but do not need an abulance, emergency rooms are operated at most hospitals in the country. In Reykjavík you will want to go to Landspítalinn in Fossvogur. You can ask the staff where you're staying, or dial 112, for more information.

The number for dental emergencies is  (+354) 575 0505. The emergency service is open during business hours on weekdays and on the weekends. In case of an emergency outside office hours you should turn to the regular emergency reception at your local hospital.
